There are multiple Joker films and different actors who play the Joker. This means that there are many reasons how the Joker became the Joker.

The most common story involves him falling into a tank of chemical waste that bleaches his skin white, turns his hair green and lips bright red. His appearance changing is what turns him insane.

Another version of the story is that his pregnant wife died and the grief turned him into the Joker.

However, the character is uncertain of who he was before he was the Joker and how he became the Joker. This leads him to create a new personality every day.

 

When the Joker kills people he does not feel sorry. He is ‘insane’. The Joker tries to prove that anyone can become like him after having one bad day.

 

The Joker has no superhuman abilities. However, he is very clever. He creates poisons for his victims to drink and when they die, they die smiling like him. The Joker also uses razor-tipped playing cards and acid-spraying lapel flowers. He also develops a jokermobile, like the batmobile. He hijacks Gotham’s television airwaves to issue threats, transforms buildings into death traps, launches gas attacks on the city and rains poisoned glass shards on its citizens. The Joker nearly kills Batman in a sword fight. He is very theatrical. He has a gun revealing a red flag saying ‘bang’ when shot, and then skewering his target.

 

The Joker is unable to properly work in a team because he wants so much chaos.
