Daisy Opal was born with her superpower, just like her mother. Growing up different from other kids was hard for Daisy, but her mother taught her how to control her powers and use them for good. Now, she has perfected her incredible ability to control the elements and uses it to defeat villains!
Daisy’s mother gave her this name as she has a special connection to plants and the earth, which move and grow in whichever way she wants. This is dangerous for the villains that she faces, as nature is one of the most powerful forces. Her surname ‘Opal’ (meaning ‘precious stone’) originates from the world’s most popular gemstone, thought to be a healing stone which brings energy and balance and is associated with love and loyalty. This fits Daisy’s character very well – her many allies means she is popular, with a quick-witted and balanced mind and a deep care for others, making her a powerful hero!
Daisy gains much of her power through her calm and gentle nature, which allows her to clear her mind and respond to dangerous situations in a clever way. Her tattoos remind her of who she is – representing her connection to the Earth and reminding her to stay grounded. She wears comfortable, colourful clothing which is practical and represents her energetic spirit.

Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston. He was a feminist who supported the women’s suffrage and he believed that women deserved full equality. However, in his home he followed a patriarchal system. He lived with three women, having 4 children with 2 of them. This insincerity adds to how Wonder Woman is an unrealistic superhero.
Gal Gadot was 5 months pregnant during filming. Therefore the production team green-screened her stomach and carefully edited shots. This is because a pregnant superhero is not ‘normal’ and does not have the ‘perfect body’. But pregnant or not, a superhero would still have their powers and could fight evil. You do not need a ‘perfect body’ to be a superhero.
It is also suggested that pregnancy, motherhood and femininity are not compatible with being a superhero. Women are strong and can fight baddies just like men can.
Gal Gadot said that due to her green-screened stomach she looked like Kermit the Frog on far away shots.

Daisy Opal stands out from many superheroes, who can unfortunately contribute to inequality. For example, scroll down to read more about Wonder Woman...
